Norwood Park Wedding Photographer
Hi I’m Martin & I’m a Nottingham wedding photographer. Norwood Park is one of my favourite venues in the county to shoot. Exclusive-use, set in 175 acres of deer parkland just outside Southwell, it gives couples the kind of space and privacy that’s rare in the East Midlands. You know you’ve arrived somewhere special the moment you drive through the white gates and up that magnificent driveway.

An exclusive-use venue built for beautiful photography
There’s only ever one wedding a day at Norwood Park, so you get the whole place to yourselves. For me as your photographer that’s a gift. We can chase the best light wherever it falls without working around other couples or sharing the gardens.
The owners have spent years building a genuine luxury wedding experience here and it shows. A lake, an apple orchard, that grand staircase, formal gardens that open onto parkland. I honestly believe Norwood Park photography is at its best when you let the location breathe and do some of the work.
A couple of things I’ve learned from shooting here so often. The orchard is gorgeous for portraits but it’s better earlier in the year. As summer goes on it gets overgrown and harder to walk through. If you love sparkler photos, I’ve found that the cobbled path outside the gallery and clock tower works well. The ambient lighting there gives a far more interesting background than the gardens which are very dark so there’s no background interest. It’s easy to gather everyone without moving guests halfway across the grounds.

That matters more than it sounds. We know where the light falls and when, which corners of the grounds work best for portraits and how the day tends to flow here. We’ve worked alongside the Norwood Park team plenty of times, so we slot into their rhythm rather than getting in the way of it. Photo and video stay out of each other’s shots and pull in the same direction all day.

Portraits at Norwood Park
A few years ago I took a photo here of a bride walking down the grand staircase, veil flowing behind her. It went on to win both a Wedisson award and a coveted Flash Masters silver award. Over the years it’s become almost synonymous with Norwood Park and couples often ask me to recreate it for their own wedding. I’m told it even gets shown to other photographers as inspiration to recreate themselves. Not a bad legacy for one frame on a staircase.
That shot is timeless and romantic and couples love it for good reason. But it’s only one side of what I do. At heart I lead with fashion-forward, editorial inspired portraits. The kind of images that feel stylish and intentional without ever tipping into cheesy. I’ll get you moving, turning, laughing and having a bit of fun, then catch the moments in between. What you won’t get is stiff, forced, say-cheese poses staring down the lens.
Because I’ve shot here so many times I know exactly where to take you, so a portrait session rarely needs more than ten or fifteen minutes. You get frames worth printing without losing half your day to a photoshoot. And with a venue this beautiful, the staircase, the orchard, the parkland at golden hour, we’re spoilt for backdrops.
Documentary storytelling through the day
Around those portraits, the rest of your day is documentary. Most couples don’t love being photographed and the last thing you want is someone bossing your guests around or making everyone shout “cheese” all afternoon.
So for the bulk of the day I hang back and watch. The quiet getting-ready moments, the walk down the aisle, the speech that lands, the best man’s stunt with the rubber ring, the Jenga tower going over on the lawn. The best photographs are usually the ones where nobody realised the camera was there.

Knowing the light, whatever the weather
Light is the one thing you can’t fake, and the difference between a good photographer at Norwood and a great one is knowing how the sun moves around the grounds through the day. I know where to put your family group shots in bright midday sun and where to move them when it’s overcast, so the light flatters everyone rather than leaving half the group squinting or in shadow.
Here’s something most couples don’t realise. The tall trees along the front of Norwood mean the sun dips behind them earlier than the official golden hour, so if you wait for the time the app tells you, you’ve already missed it. What I do instead is take you out in the buggy. A short drive to the lake gets us away from those trees, lets the sun sit lower in the sky and gives us that proper golden, sun-kissed light you booked a photographer for. It’s a five-minute trip and it’s almost always the best ten minutes of portraits all day.
If it rains, I can use my specialist flash knowledge to create beautiful backlit rain photos inside the pagoda. You stay dry and still get beautiful portraits from your wedding day.
No matter the weather, there’s always somewhere at Norwood that works and being a recommended photographer means I have the experience to know exactly where the best spots are.
